Meet our board member, Kris! She is a wonderful voice for the community and offers a great perspective as a leader of an organization with which Reach is fortunate to partner for Workplace English classes.
Tell us about yourself, your family, and where you are from.
Married for 27 years to my wonderful husband, Tom. Three children — Alex, 26, Erin, 23, and Elizabeth 20. Grew up on a pig farm in Luverne, MN. Met my husband at SDSU and moved to SF following graduation.
What interested you in being involved with Reach?
I wanted to support the amazing work I observed in our REACH Literacy classes at Sanford.
What is your favorite Reach offering and why?
Workplace English classes, of course ☺ The positive impact to our 30-40 Environmental Services team members goes far beyond the walls of Sanford and boosts confidence and improves the ability to navigate our community.
What’s a book you think everyone should read at least once in their lifetime?
Shel Silverstein’s Where the Sidewalk Ends.
What’s one thing you think everyone should know about Reach?
Reach is an amazing team of motivated and energetic individuals who work together to improve literacy in our community, and if they don’t know already, I think EVERYONE should find out more about their programs.
Do you have any goals or hopes for the future of Reach Literacy?
Knowing the impact that Reach Literacy has made at Sanford, it is my hope that more employers invest in their employees by bringing literacy classes to their workplace.
