Meet our new board member, Naomi! She brings a fresh perspective and a vision for making an impact of peace through literacy.
Tell us about yourself, your family, and where you are from.
I came to Sioux Falls in May 2019 after living in Aberdeen for five years. Previous to that, I lived in Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota. I’m married to Brian Roegiers, executive director of McCrossan Boy’s Ranch. I have three adult children and three grandchildren.
What interested you in being involved with Reach Literacy?
As an educator and global citizen, I believe in unleashing the power of learning. Having the skill to read is a vital tool to harness that power. My personal vision statement is to have an impact for peace. Coming alongside Reach is a way for me to actualize these convictions and vision.
What is your favorite Reach offering?
I honestly don’t know yet. I find the most motivation in the workplace English classes.
What’s a book you think everyone should read at least once in their lifetime?
Hard question! I honestly cannot answer the question because I believe that the diversity of thought, perspective, history and story are crucial to offering a rich life — the good life.
What’s one thing you think everyone should know about Reach Literacy?
Its primary mission of adult literacy, the data of this unmet need in Sioux Falls and how we are addressing the needs.
Do you have any goals or hopes for the future of Reach Literacy?
Grow its work!
